In lay Kaw Kaw fighting, the military council’s fighter jet bombed its troops by accident killing many soldiers, said the KNLA joint forces.

When the regime’s two columns entered Lay Kay Kaw in the early hours of April 10, where the fighting had been quiet for a long time, and they clashed with the KNLA’s Cobra column.

As the military sustained huge losses, it used aerial bombing.



“They conducted aerial bombing near Pagoda Hill and many soldiers were wounded. At that time, they dropped bombs and some were torn into pieces. Some are on fire. They are all gone. More than 30 people were killed in Lay Kay Kaw riots on April 10 and no bodies have been collected so far,” recalled a KNLA official.

According to the Cobra column, a captain from the 44th Division was captured alive and the battalion commander was probably killed with ammunition confiscated.

Chemical bombs were thought to have been dropped by the military council during the combat, according to the KNLA.

“The bombs dropped in the evening have a very pleasant odour. We instantly suspected that chemicals were involved. We used damp clothes to cover our noses. The buddies who smelled it became dizzy and vomitted,” the KNLA said.

There was no military activities on April 11, in the new town of Lay Kay Kaw, where fighting had raged all day.

Fighting between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and military forces began on December 15, last year in Lay Kay Kaw.

Locals have been forced to flee to the forests along the banks of the Thaung Yin River on the Thai-Myanmar border as a result of the fighting and have been unable to return to their homes.
