The military regime not only carried out daily airstrikes, but also used bombs believed to be chemical weapons in the Mekanei battle of Myawaddy Township under KNU Brigade 6, said the revolutionary forces.
Since the first week of April, the combined resistance forces have clashed with the junta army and aligned BGF troops, which invaded the Mekanei area with massive forces.
From April 23 to 24, the junta army fired at least 30 artillery shots around the Mekanel area, which was secured by the revolutionary forces, in which the regime troops used a type of heavy weapon believed to be chemical bombs (gas bombs), reported the Cobra column.
Meanwhile, the junta army is carrying out airstrikes around the Mekanei area, but no casualties have been reported.
The KNU spokesperson, Padoh Saw Taw Nee, told Than Lwin Times that the military council’s aggressive offensive using the army and air force around the Mekanei area shows that they are no longer able to control the territory.
Padoh Saw Taw Nee said that the military regime claimed to have cracked down on the revolutionary forces, but in reality, they were targeting civilians.
Since the beginning of April, the junta army and its aligned BGF have launched massive offensives into the Mekanei area of KNU Brigade 6 on the ground and in the air, carrying out attacks on villages targeting the civilian population.
The military council’s attack destroyed many houses, including a church in Mekanei village, and thousands of local people there and in other villages are still fleeing to safety.
