Tanintharyi, June (10)
The regime forces arrested at least 400 civilians, three of whom were killed in Tanintharyi in May alone, according to the statement of FE5 Tanintharyi, a research group, released on June 8.
According to FE5 Tanintharyi’s statement, the military council arrested 421 people in May for various reasons, 321 of them were later released.
However, three of those arrested were tortured to death, and over 100 civilians remain in custody for various reasons, according to the statement.
Among those arrested were 333 people from Dawei, Thayet Chaung, Launglon, and Yebyu Townships; at least 81 people from Palaw and Tanintharyi Townships; and seven people from Khamaukgyi and Bokepyin Townships.
In May, 21 people were killed and over 34,000 fled their homes due to gunfire and skirmishes between the two factions.
With the arrival of the rainy season, the displaced people are facing accommodation and health issues, and are in need of medical supplies and shelter.
The way of fighting has changed in Tanintharyi, where military tension has been high for more than two years since the coup, and the military council was forced to go on the defensive as the revolutionary forces launched the offensive.
