Thayet Chaung, July (16)
The local Peoples’ Defense Forces announced that five PDF comrades were killed in Kyauk Hlekhar village battle in Tanintharyi Region’s Thayet Chaung Township.
On July 10, the junta troops fired heavy artillery at the People’s Defense Forces who were taking security near Kyauk Hlekhar village, followed by two sides clashing.
During that battle, the Dawei PDF’s deputy squadron commander, Ko Kaung Kyi and the comrades from the Southern PDF – Ko Naug Gyi, Kyar Gyi, Ko Aung Lay and Ko Phoe Htaung – were killed by mortars fired by the military council.
Those deceased PDFs were confronted with the regime forces who advanced in full strength and engaged in the battle covering other PDFs, one of comrades told Than Lwin Times.
Dawei PDF said nine military personnel were killed and three others injured during the fighting between the two sides.
A coalition of Dawei PDF, Daung Min Operation, Southern PDF and Dawei Dragon Alliance resisted the military forces.
The military tension between the two sides grew in recent days as the military council marched towards the locations where the PDFs may have been stationed and fired mortar shells on them.
