Paung, February (16)

In the morning of February 15, the gunmen shot and killed U Myint Yi, a militia leader from Yinnyeintaung village in Mon State’s Paung Township, the locals told Than Lwin Times.

At around 7 o’clock yesterday morning, militia leader U Myint Yi and his members were having tea at Ngwe Shan tea shop in Yinnyeintaung village, when three gunmen arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on them.

U Myint Yi received four gunshot wounds to the head and chest in the shooting and died at the scene. His body was taken to Yinnyein Hospital.

The special operations force (S.O.F.) said that they assassinated U Myint Yi because he teamed up with the government troops to hunt down the youth in the villages and proclaimed that he would grab hold of PDFs by the scruff of their necks.

In addition, U Myint Yi is a veteran of the 44th Division of the military regime as well as a trainer of members of Pyu Saw Htee, according to the Special Operations Force (S.O.F.).

On February 1, U Ko Ko Lay, a candidate for the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) for the 2020 general election, was shot dead at his home near the train station area in Poung ward of Paung Towship.
