Belin, May (17)
Fighting between the junta army and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) has resumed in Ah Suu Chaung village in Mon State’s Belin Township since May 15, according to the KNU’s Allied Oversight Committee-Thaton.
As a 100-strong military column advanced towards Belin from the Maewaing area, it clashed with the KNLA.
On the morning of May 16, another battle broke out between the regime troops and the KNLA joint forces, and the details of the situation are still unknown, the chairman of KNU’s Allied Oversight Committee told Than Lwin Times.
However, the KNLA joint forces gained the upper hand in the fight, and the military regime might have suffered casualties, the committee said.
Currently, the junta column is blocked by the combined force of the KNLA and is stuck near Ah Suu Chaung village, said the resistance forces.
The residents of three surrounding villages, including Ah Suu Chaung village, are fleeing the conflict and are in need of humanitarian aid.
The regime troops kept firing artillery shells into the villages in Belin of KNU Brigade 1 in April, forcing 7,000 local residents to safety.
