Thaton, May (28)

A truck hit the landmine on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Moe Kaung village tract in Mon State’s Thaton Township, killing one driver and two others, locals said.

A 22-wheeler truck heading to Thaton to Belin struck a landmine near Moe Kaung village tract around 9 p.m. on May 26.

Driver U Than Min Thani and Ko Hein Zin Win, who lived in Phyapon Township, Ayeyarwaddy Region, were killed, and Ma Khin Zar Hlaing was also injured in the landmine attack.

The dead and injured have been transported to the public hospital in Thaton district by social rescue teams.

Military lobbyists propagandize on their Telegram accounts that the mine attack on the truck was carried out by the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).

The chairman of the KNU’s Allied Oversight Committee-Thaton District told Than Lwin Times that they are continuing to investigate which organization is responsible for the attack.

The Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, where the truck was hit by a mine, is a road used by the junta army, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), and PDFs for military operations.

A passenger bus had been struck by a mine on the Yangon-Mawlamyine route on May 21 at Kamar Sai village, Donwun village tract in Thaton Township, injuring three people.
