Local and foreign news agencies reported that Myanmar’s leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was removed from prison to a state-owned residence. The reports said that she was transferred on 24 July. However, the military council remains silent about it to be kept completely secret.

This interview with U Kyaw Zaw, the spokesperson of President’s Office of National Unity Government, is about their view on the removal of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from prison to house arrest and whether it is an exist strategy in politics of the military.

TLT: What is  the intention of military council for the removal of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from prison to house arrest, and what is the view of NUG on this?

U Kyaw Zaw: There are some media reports, including AP news agency, that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been removed from prison to a residence in Nay Pyi Taw. No one has confirmed it. We are pleased if she was transferred to a more comfortable place for her because she has been 78 years old. Actually, she must be released immediately from unlawful arrest. She was confined under uncomfortable conditions. However, she is still under arrest as a political prisoner due to military dictators. All the political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Win Myint must be released immediately and unconditionally. They are tyrants and bullies for the public. They are attempting to divide among resistance forces and between international community and resistance forces.

There is no way to lose ties among resistance forces which emerged from the public. And all the ethnic people have understood deceitful manners of military dictators.

TLTL: Will the military use Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as a political exit for peace dialogue and holding elections? What do you think?

U Kyaw Zaw: Of course, they would try it. But they could not trick people and resistance groups. People will accept any attempt that meets their expectation.

TLT: What is your message to the military council on their attempts to use Daw Aung San Suu Kyi?

U Kyaw Zaw: The military council should back to their barracks after the immediate stop of killing civilians if they really accept the truth. They need to abandon politics. Only then, Myanmar will surely enjoy genuine peace.
