Launglon, 12 August

A junta official and a member of  its affiliated militia were killed in an ambush attack in Tanintharyi Region’s Launglon Township, reported the Launglon People’s Defense Force (LLPDF) on 11 August.

The LLPDF ambushed about ten military and militia members moving in a car and a motorcycle from Kyauk Ni Maw village to Kyauk Wut Pyin village, on 8 August of anniversary of the 8888 Uprising.

During the 20-minute exchange of fire, a junta lieutenant and a militiaman were killed, while three others were injured, the LLPD told Than Lwin Times.

The deceased military officer was Lieutenant Wei Min Thu of Light Infantry Battalion 410 based in Launglon Township, according to the LLPD’s statement.

Lieutenant Wei Min Thu and militia member Ko Su Kan were cremated in the Kyauk Ni Maw Cemetery, and three others, including the militia leader, were injured and are reportedly being hospitalized.

The LLPDF warned residents not to travel unnecessarily as more than 50 junta troops is stationed in Kyauk Ni Maw village.
