Dawei, 17 September
Five junta soldiers were killed in an attack as they were providing security for the Chief Minister’s visit near Maung Mae Shaung village in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei Township, according to the Dawei Guerrilla Revolutionary Force (DGRF).
The nearly 70-strong regime force that was providing security for the Chief Minister’s visit was shot by a sniper at the beginning of the attack on September 15 at around 7 a.m.
Two soldiers were killed in the sniper attack, and then a battle erupted for nearly half an hour between the junta army and the Local Defense Forces.
At least three more soldiers were killed and some were wounded in the exchange of fire, the spokesperson of the DGRF confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
Following the attack, the DGRF opened fire on the Chief Minister’s convoy on its way to Dawei Technological University around noon, and the details of the situation are still being investigated.
The Dawei Guerrilla Revolutionary Force (DGRF) and the Oak Aw Column claimed responsibility for the attack.
Last September 11, two members of regime troops were killed in a sniper attack at the Phayar Me checkpoint near Maung Mae Shaung village.
