Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to the Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program checks for fake news and misinformation about revolutionary incidents circulated on social media following the military takeover.

Today, we will verify the report shared by military supporters on social media saying, “Demoso battle in Karenni State claimed the lives of almost 100 members of People’s Defense Force (PDF)”.

This fake news was circulated on Telegram by Tagaung Bwar Sanay Thar, Hmine Wai, Han Nyein Oo, Saw Ba Maung and Sergeant Phoe Si.

Than Lwin Times investigated the content being distributed by junta-backed accounts and discovered that, while the combat in Karenni State is intense, the claim that 100 PDFs were killed in the Moso battle is incorrect.

In fact, the junta suffered casualties, and more than 50 battles took place in Karenni State in August, resulting in more than 100 deaths of terrorist junta soldiers.

On September 2, the allied forces of Karenni raided junta bases stationed in Thay Suu Le Village and Pu Phar Village in Demoso Township of Karenni State and wiped out more than 30 soldiers, including officers from Infantry Battalion 9 under the Military Operation Command-2, reported the resistance forces.

According to a statement from the Progressive Karenni People’s Force (PKPF), many soldiers were injured on September 2, and the desperate soldiers were fleeing the fighting with revolutionary forces.

On September 2, the combined force of the Karenni Revolutionary Army (KRU), Demoso PDF-Battalion 4, and Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF)-Battalion 1 captured a military outpost where more than 20 soldiers were stationed in Kontha village of Demoso Township and seized weapons and ammunition.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, the report “Demoso battle in Karenni State claimed the lives of almost 100 members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF)” is just false information spread by junta supporters.
