Landmine injures two pilgrims on Mawlamyine-Yangon road

Two civilians were injured when a vehicle carrying pilgrims hit a land mine on the Mawlamyine-Yangon highway between the Kyon Eik bridge adjacent to Belin and Don Wun village in Thaton Township, Mon State, locals told Than Lwin Times.

The light truck with pilgrims heading Thaton from Belin struck a landmine near milepost No. (132/5) on the Mawlamyine-Yangon highway around 6:00 a.m. on October 23.

The driver, U Wunna Kyaw, and passenger, Ma Htet Htet Aung, were injured by shrapnel, and the driver is in critical condition.

According to social relief organizations, the mine explosion damaged the pilgrim’s vehicle, and the injured were taken to the Thaton District Public Hospital for treatment.

According to local residents, the vehicle was carrying pilgrims from Ayeyarwaddy Region to Mon State.

On May 21, a passenger vehicle hit a mine on the Mawlamyine-Yangon road in Kamar Sai Village, Thaton Township, injuring three civilians.

During the coup, frequent landmine explosions occurred on the Mawlamyine-Yangon highway, and civilians were injured or killed in the exchange of fire between the two sides.
