Launglon, 24 December
The fighting that broke out in Tanintharyi Region’s Launglon Township killed six regime troops and two PDF members, according to the statement of the Launglon People’s Defense Force (LLPDF).
The LLPDF engaged in a fight with the junta army while waiting to launch an ambush attack on a military convoy leaving Launglon on 20 December morning, losing two PDF friends and two firearms.
Around 4:30 p.m. on that day, the LLPDF launched surprise attacks on three locations where the junta troops and militiamen were stationed with heavy weapons and small arms.
The attack triggered a one-hour-long battle, killing six regime troops, and the LLPDF confiscated a M-16 rifle, 50 bullets, two ammo boxes, and a knife.
The LLPDF burned down the checkpoint at Longlong High School and the veterans’ office at the intersection of Nyaungpin Road and military uniforms as the soldiers fled their camps during the fighting, the spokesperson of the LLPDF told the Than Lwin Times.
Ko Soe Thu and Ma Hnin Hnin Aye were killed after being hit by shrapnel in the battle, and eight others were wounded.
After the attack, a 20-strong military column invaded Thabyar village on December 22, said the local resistance forces.
The junta forces forcibly seized gold, silver, and valuables from local homes in villages including Thabyar, Satpye, and Hnin Maw in Launglon this month.
Six junta troops were killed on November 26 when their vehicle was hit by a landmine while returning from a patrol in Launglon.
