A total of 138 students have been sentenced to prison throughout Myanmar since the military coup until 4 July, according to the recent report of Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.
Student prisoners include 107 male and 31 female, including the highest number of 65 in Yangon.
Htet Paing Soe, the third-year student and vice-chairman of Yangon Economic University, was sentenced 10 years under Section 50 (j) of Counter-Terrorism Law at Yangon East District’s court on 30 June.
The AAPP also said that the junta regime was responsible for the deaths of 3,756 civilians in violent attacks across the country, and 23,674 are under arrest.
Moreover, there are a total of 115 post-coup death row prisoners, and 122 people have been sentenced in absentia, making a total of 158 people sentenced to death.
