Palaw, 22 August
An 80-year-old woman was killed and three others were injured after artillery shells launched by the regime forces exploded in Latku hamlet, Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, locals told Than Lwin Times.
The military council’s Light Infantry Battalion 285, based in Palaw, intentionally fired three mortar shells into Latku village around 4:00 p.m. on 19 August.
One of the shells fired by the junta army landed in front of the house of an 80-year-old, Daw Than Kyi, and she died on the spot.
Daw Than Kyi died from wound in the neck, and two men and one woman near her home were also injured.
People are living in fear and do not dare to go to work because of the military council’s daily unprovoked firing with heavy weapons, according to local residents.
The army opened fire after their patrolling convoy was hit by a mine near Pala town on 17 August night, wounding two civilians.
A curfew has been imposed in Palaw, but frequent clashes have erupted between the military regime and resistance fighters, and the junta army’s artillery shelling injures or kills people on a daily basis.
