The New Mon State Party (NMSP) urged the military leader to hold a joint meeting with the Tamadaw, the National League for Democracy (NLD), ethnic political parties, and all ethnic armed resistance organizations to achieve peace for the country as soon as possible.
The party’s statement issued on October 15 stated that the delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the New Mon State Party, Nai Aung Min, made the request during a meeting with the military leader, General Min Aung Hlaing on October 11.
The NMSP urged the military leader to meet with other armed organizations and opposition groups just as they met with ethnic armed organizations without preconditions.
In addition, the New Mon Party said that it is necessary to meet and discuss with all relevant individuals and organizations, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who deserves to participate in order to resolve the current conflicts and prevent the loss of people’s lives and property.
Regarding military leader General Min Aung Hlaing’s response to the NMSP’s suggestion, Than Lwin Times called the NMSP official at least ten times but received no reply.
The three-day discussion with the Peace Talks Team from October 12 to 14 included the list of Union legislation – Table 1 and the list of regional or state legislation – Table 2 in the 2008 Constitution, the NMSP said.
According to the decision of the 9th Joint-Ceasefire Implementation Coordinating Meeting (JICM), they discussed steps for peace process beyond 2020 and step by step implementation (Table-2) as well as the agreements included in Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the Union Accord along with the findings and whether they comply with the 2008 Constitution and the existing laws.
The New Mon State Party met with the military council for the second time amid the opposition of Mon organizations and Mon youths.
The New Mon State Party has announced that since the cause of the armed conflict is only a political issue, it believes that it must be resolved through political means and has chosen the path of dialogue.
