It is reported that the National Unity and Peace Coordination Committee of the military council has sent a notice to the KNU Chairman and the KNLA’s Chief of Staff to restrain their subordinate groups.
The National Unity and Peace Coordination Committee informed the Karen National Union KNU Chairman General Saw Mu Tu Say Poe and Karen National Liberation Army KNLA Chief General Saw Johny of the situation of the resistance forces on February 6.
In the notification, the KNU Central Committee members, including the KNU Chairman and the Chief of Staff, are required to prevent the subversive activities of subordinate forces and KNDO forces and to exercise restraints for the benefit of the people.
The KNU Central Committee has a plan to respond to the military council’s notification, but KNU spokesperson Padoh Saw Taw Nee said that they are currently unable to respond to the matter.
Padoh Man Man, the spokesperson of KNU Brigade 5 said that the military council has been taking advantage of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) from the beginning and coercing the KNU, and the KNU needs to make a clear announcement that the NCA is no longer valid.
The regime forces have stated that they will cease military operations, but there have been ongoing clashes between the junta army and KNLA/KNDO joint forces in areas controlled by the KNU, with nearly 8,000 battles erupting during the two-year military coup, according to the KNU statement.
