A military convoy was caught in a surprise attack on Yangon-Mawlamyine near Daukyat village in Mon State’s Belin Township around 7 am on February 17, reported the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee.

The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint force intercepted the five-vehicle military convoy heading to Belin from Thaton Township with heavy weapons and small arms.

The four military vehicles were damaged, and at least five soldiers were reportedly killed in the ambush, the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee, Thaton, told Than Lwin Times.

After the attack, the exchange of fire took place for nearly 20 minutes, blocking the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway for over an hour, which was reopened at around 9 am.

It is said that the military council put the injured soldiers in a vehicle and left for Kyaikto Township.

The junta troops destroyed four local homes with heavy weapons after their convoys hit the landmines on the Yanogn-Mawlayine road near Daukyat village on January 27.
