Mawlamyine, Mrch (9)

Almost 93 percent of the students registered for this year’s matriculation exam held by the military council in Mon State sat for the exam, according to data from the State Education Department.

There were over 6,000 applicants in the state to take the matriculation exam, of which nearly 5,800 took the exam and 452 did not.

Only 23 testing locations were open throughout the state due to the small number of students, and some schools collaborated to conduct the exam.

The military council tightened security at the schools where the exams were held and temporarily blocked some roads.

In Mon State, there were nearly 29,000 students who took the matriculation exam in 2019 and over 30,000 in 2020.

The military council announced that the 2023 matriculation exam was the last exam held under the old system for those who failed the matriculation exam in 2022 and for those who could not take the exam for various reasons.

Before the military coup in Myanmar, there were more than 900,000 applicants to take the matriculation exam each year, and after the military coup, the number of students who took the exam decreased significantly.
