Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolutionary events spread on social

media after the military takeover.

Today, we will be checking the content of the photo titled, “The KNPP/PDF raided the Mese police station in Karenni State, but they could not capture it”.

This content was disseminated via the fake Telegram accounts of Kyaw Swar, and Han

Nyein Oo on June 13.

The junta supporters shared the post, saying, “The Mese Township police station was not seized by revolutionary forces because of the policemen’s both physical and mental capabilities”.

The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation, hiding the truth of the incident.

In fact, On June 13, the allied forces of Karenni attacked three junta defensive camps and a police station in Mese Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, killing many troops, including the police chief, according to reliable sources and the Karenni Army (KA).

On June 13, the fighting took place from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. the following day and the police chief of Mese police station was killed; about 40 rifles were seized from three camps; and two 120 mm weapons were also seized from Taung Hla camp, reported Myanmar Now, citing Khu Nyae Yal, the spokesperson for Karenni Military Information Center (KMIC), which covers military news of the Karenni Army.

The Karenni troops were able to raid the junta camps, and military aircraft bombed them six times between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. the following day, so the resistance forces seized weapons and escaped to avoid harming their comrades.

The camps raided by the Karenni Revolutionary Forces are Taung Hla camp, Me La Nwe camp near Taung Hla village on the east bank of the Salween River in Mase Township, and BP 14 hill camp at No. 14 Myanmar-Thai border, reported RFA and Myanmar Now, citing KMIC.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, the claim that “The KNPP/PDF raided the Mese police station in Karenni State, but they could not capture it,” is merely false information spread by junta supporters.
