The fighting has intensified between the two sides in Aung Thar Yar and Kanin Kamaw villages since June 27, and the junta army has launched air attacks, locals told Than Lwin Times.
The 100-strong military column entered Aung Thar Yar village on the evening of June 26, and clashes broke out with the joint force of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Forces.
The battle broke out again at around 8:00 a.m. that day, and at around 11:00 p.m., two military aircraft carried out attacks, according to the locals.
Residents of five nearby villages, including Aung Thar Yar and Kanin Kamaw villages, are fleeing, and some residents are trapped inside the villages.
The fighting stopped at around 3 p.m., and the details of the situation are not yet known.
On June 25, an attack by joint forces on Hnit Karen police station in Ye Township triggered a battle, and one civilian was killed and four others were injured in junta airstrikes.
Nine junta soldiers were killed in the Hnit Karen battle, but there were no deaths or injuries among resistance forces, according to the statement.
