Taunggup, 14 July

Six locals in Taunggup township, Rakhine state, were sentenced to 4 years each on 11 July under Section 52 (a) of Counter-Terrorism Law for their association with Arakan Army.

A family member of detainee said to Than Lwin Times, “They were accused of keeping explosives without strong evidences. The AA has been delisted from terrorist category. So, I do not understand the sentence for them.”

The prisoners are Than Naing, Htay Maung, Kyaw Tin Aung, Nay Ye Win, Maung Gyi and Maung Ngal who are the locals of Taunggup and their family members have demanded their release and systematic investigation in humanitarian ground.
