Today, we will verify the news circulated on social media saying, “The in charge of NUG’s Yangon Region Operations Officer Ko Di Nyein Lin and his team kill people and inspect vehicles on Shwe Kyin-Nyaunglaybin Road, Bago Region”.
This fake news has been posted by junta-affiliated Telegram accounts of People Media, Han Nyein Oo, We Love Myanmar and Myo Chit on social media.
The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos and discovered them to be false.
In fact, on August 11, the People’s Defense Force, led by NUG’s Yangon Region Operations Officer Ko Di Nyein Lin, arrested a surveillance officer who was causing trouble to the people along the Shwe Kyin – Nyaunglaybin road.
The Royal Peacock Column, led by Di Nyein Lin, who was providing security on the Shwe Kyin – Nyaunglaybin road, was able to arrest police officer Aung Ko Ko Naing from Madauk police station.
The evidence found on the mobile phone shows that this surveillance officer has been threatening the people and forcing them to serve as informants, extorting money, and detaining and killing members of the resistance forces, according to the Royal Peacock Column’s report and independent media outlets.
The Royal Peacock Column posted a video clip of the arrest of a surveillance officer who was a member of the military council, while pro-military accounts shared misleading information on Telegram channels.
