Army is conducting a series of blockades and searches after the head from the Department of Fisheries was shot dead in Mon State’s Ye Township where martial law has been imposed, according to locals.
On the morning of October 18, U Zaw Naing Lin, head of the fishery department of Ye Township, was shot and killed at the “Phu” tea shop in Yanggyi Aung Ward, Ye Township.
After the incident, the military council searched the entrances, exits, and intersections of Ye and arrested two men riding together on a motorcycle.
According to local residents, dozens of local people have been arrested recently because two men were riding a single motorcycle, and the military council extorts 200,000 kyats for a motorbike.
Residents say that the military council forces’ inspections are hindering the people, and they are worried that they will be shot.
At least six people, including a captain, a police chief, a departmental head, and an administrator, were shot dead between September and October in Ye.
The military council imposed martial law in Ye Township, where revolutionary forces are active, on February 2, last year, and harsh local orders were issued.
