Locals told Than Lwin Times that five people were killed and five others were injured in the accident of a hijet vehicle overturning around 7 am on July 18 on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway near Than Bridge in Tahpyayni village of Belin Township.
A hijet vehicle heading to Kyaikto from Belin was unable to control its speed and overturned near the Than Bridge.
Four women and one man died; a driver and four others were injured in the accident.
Among the injured, three in critical condition were taken to Yangon and Thathong Township hospitals, while the remaining two were taken to Belin Township Hospital.
Those who died in the accident were residents of Alu village, Belin Township, and most of them were elderly.
The accident occurred on the way to a memorial service in Kyaikto Township.
