Kyaikto, July (19)

On the morning of July 18, a military convoy struck the landmines on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway near Thitseikpin village in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township, the sources from the People’s Defense Forces in Thaton District told Than Lwin Times.

The combined forces of the Karen National Liberation Army attacked a military convoy of thirteen vehicles heading to Kyaikto from Waw Township.

The attack destroyed one vehicle, and the military personnel might have been killed. A PDF member from Thathon District said that they are still investigating whether there were any casualties.

Following the landmine attack, one vehicle, with all the doors closed, drove into Kyaikto Township at high speed and continued to leave, he said.

The military convoys are attacked at least 15 times by landmines in Kyaikto Township every month, and there are many deaths on the junta side during the attacks.
