The Karen National Union (KNU) said that clashes between the military council and KNLA joint forces have resumed in Kawkareik Township, an area under the control of the 6th Brigade of the Karen National Union (KNU).
On July 28, around 6:00 a.m., a two-hour battle broke out between the regime forces and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in the village of Maungmatharkone in the south of Kawkareik Township.
Five military personnel were killed and one officer was wounded during the attack, according to the local sources.
The Kawkarein-based No. 97 Infantry Battalion fired into the village with heavy weapons, the KNU’s 6th Brigade said.
Meanwhile, the VENOM column attacked the regime troops that were clearing the area, near Myawaddy-Wallay road in KNU Brigade 6 territory around 12 noon on July 27.
During this attack, two junta soldiers, including a squadron commander, were killed and some were injured, according to the VENOM column.
The armed conflict between the joint forces of the KNLA and regime troops in the territory of the 6th Brigade of the KNU-Dupalaya District has driven more than 60,000 residents to flee the conflict across the entire district, according to the Karen Peace Support Network (KPSN).
