Yangon, September (25)
The retired Major General of the Myanmar Army, Ohn Thwin, and his son-in-law, former Captain Ye Tay Za, were shot dead by the Inya Urban Group, the Yangon urban guerrilla force, and its allies at around 3:00 pm on September 24.
They both died on the spot when they were assassinated at their home in Hlaing Township’s 12th Ward, Yangon.
A local news agency reported that the deceased Major General Ohn Thwin graduated from the 15th intake of Defence Services Academy (DSA) and was a mentor to the second-ranking member of the Military Council, but Than Lwin Times has not been able to independently confirm this.
He also celebrated when the military took power in the country and reportedly sent a suggestion to the military leaders that, within the framework of the 2008 constitution, they could maintain power without a coup.
Retired Major General Ohn Thwin has previously served as Myanmar’s ambassador to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, and South Africa.
He worked as an instructor at the National Defense College (NDC) and was a member of the Myanmar War Veterans Organization.
Local news sources claim that the Inya Urban Force killed Retired General Ohn Thwin and her younger daughter’s spouse, Retired Captain Ye Tay Za.
