The 10 political prisoners detained in Dawei Prison in Tanintharyi Region were given lengthy jail sentences by the military council, according to Dawei Political Prisoner Network.
Of the 10 political prisoners who were sentenced to long prison terms by the regime’s prison court, four were sentenced to 20 years in prison and six others were sentenced to 10 more years in prison.
Ko Tun Oo, a democracy activist who had already been sentenced to 26 years in prison, was sentenced to an additional 20 years, bringing his total prison sentence to 46 years.
Similarly, Ko Yarzar Tun, who was already sentenced to 21 years in prison, was sentenced to an additional 20 years in prison, and Ko Sai Min Thu was sentenced to 10 more years in prison.
Those who were sentenced to another 10 years in prison each include democracy activists Ko Lin Htet Ko, Ko Song Yu Tun, Ko Thet Paing Oo, Ko Aung Aung Latt and Ko Aung Aung.
Currently, up to 201 political prisoners have been sentenced to prison in Dawei, and the political prisoners who are detained are sentenced to a minimum of one year in prison to a maximum of life imprisonment, with the majority of them receiving long prison terms.
