More than 80 soldiers, including commanding officer, were killed in the fighting between the two sides in the territory of KNU Brigade 3, Nyaunglaybin Distric in September alone, according to the KNU’s statement released on October 6.
There were 71 clashes between the combined forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the Karen National Defense Force (KNDO), and the Military Council in Nyaunglaybin District last month.
During that battle, 83 military personnel were killed and 86 others were wounded, and among the dead were battalion commanders, lieutenant commanders, captains, and lieutenants, the statement said.
Three comrades lost their lives from KNLA, KNDO and PDF, and 12 others were injured.
According to the statement, the Military Council not only deliberately targeted villages with mortar shells, but also staged three airstrikes targeting public areas during the fighting.
The regime forces forcibly evicted the people from two villages in Mone Township, under KNU’s Nyaunglaybin District, and two civilians were killed and three others injured by mortar shells fired by junta soldiers.
