The Karen National Union (KNU) announced on October 14 that the pilgrims died as a result of indiscriminate shooting by regime forces at the Kyaiktiro bus terminal in Mon State.
On October 12, the allied resistance forces attacked the security forces stationed at the foot of the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda Hill.
The Karen National Union (KNU) said that three pilgrims were killed and 13 others wounded when the regime forces opened fire discriminately with heavy and small weapons.
The mortar shell fired from Kinmonchaung police station fell on the roof of Daw Hla Shwe’s house in Kinmonchaung and exploded, and U Than Aye’s son Nga Pu (aka Saw Nang Win) was hit in the right arm.
Moreover, another mortar shell exploded in front of Aung Aung Beauty Saloon, suffering shrapnel wounds to the back of Daw Jumbone, aged around 40, and the right arm of his daughter Ma Watmalay, aged five, both of whom were taken to Kyaikto Hospital for treatment.
The Military Council condemned on October 12 that the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 1 and the NUG and CRPH-backed PDF forces conducted reckless shooting, killing three pilgrims, and injuring 19 others.
Ko Aye Min Tun, who is in charge of PDF in Thatthong District, said that the military council needs to show the people the CCTV footage installed near the bus terminal to see which group is shooting at the pilgrims.
On October 14, military supporters’ Telegram accounts posted two short clips of CCTV record of the shooting at Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, but did not post the other footage recorded by different sides.
