Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’s Real vs. Fake News program. This program will check and identify misinformation about the people’s revolution movement that has been disseminated on social media in the wake of military coup.

Today, the story “AA fired heavy artillery at Byaindaw village, Rathedaung Township, killing a 14-year-old school girl” will be checked.

On October 19, this content began to circulate through fake Telegram accounts like Kyaw Swar and Kalaw Voice, which frequently disseminated materials that highlight supports for the junta armed forces.

Regarding the incident, Than Lwin Times checked and verified that a 7th grade school girl was killed by the junta’s reckless shooting.

In fact, on October 19, at around 11:30 a.m., a shell fired by the Yezoechaung strategic unit of the Military Council based in the northern part of Rathedaung Township hit the house of U Aung Kyaw Min and Daw Thein Nu from Byaindaw village and exploded, resulting in the death of Ma Nyein Aye Zan, in seventh grade, Narinjara News Agency reported, citing the sources.

“The girl was inside the house when the shell went off. The explosion blew her out of the house and fell onto the street. The girl had an open wound on her back that was almost cut in half at her waist,” Narinjara reported.

Therefore, the news spread by military lobbyists on social media, that “AA fired heavy artillery at Byaindaw village, Rathedaung Township, killing a 14-year-old school girl” is just a fake report.
