The two displaced people were killed when a mortar shell fired by the military council exploded at the Kontha refugee camp in the western part of Loikaw , Kayah state, the volunteers told Than Lwin Times.
A large weapon exploded on the shelter of a family of four in the refugee camp on October 23, about 9:00 pm., killing one man on the spot.
The woman, who suffered serious head injuries, was taken to Loikaw Hospital for treatment, but died at around 5 pm on October 24.
An 8-year-old boy was injured among the four members of the family who were hit by heavy weaponry, while a 6-month-old child was not.
The shooting was carried out by the light infantry battalion (422), based in Mobye, and it is said that every night, they shoot indiscriminately at the surrounding area.
The Khontha IDP Camp, roughly 10 miles from the regime’s light army battalion 422, has around 4,000 refugees.
In Kayah State, at least three displaced people were killed by the mortar shells hit by the military council in October.
