Mawlamyine, December 21
Fires broke out at three separate locations in Mon State’s Mawlamyine and Mudon on December 20, destroying 15 houses, the residents and rescue workers told Than Lwin Times.
After 1 am on December 20, the first incident was caused by a lit candle at Daw Hla Thein’s house in the west part of Shansu in Mundon’s Kamawat Town, burning of 13 houses and three motorcycles.
69 individuals from 15 homes have been evacuated to the Aung Daw Mu monastery’s relief facility in Shansu Ward.
Around 10:30 am yesterday, a second fire broke out at an airfield in Mawlamyine’s Taung Wyne Ward, but the fire did not cause any significant damage.
The third fire, around 1 p.m., was triggered by a stove at a house in Mudon’s Kwan Hla village, destroying two houses and one motorcycle.
At least ten fires have occurred in Mon state this year, costing thousands of kyats, according to the regime’s Fire Department.
