In Tanintharyi Region, the military council ordered that at least one person per household must attend mandatory military training, and if they do not follow the instructions, they must pay a fine of ten thousand kyats, the local residents told Than Lwin Times.
The commander of the military council of Bokepyin township ordered ward and village administrators through the township’s chief administrator to enlist one person per household for mandatory military training.
Locals say that despite the instructions, the military council has not released any details about the training program, and the list of participants has not yet been collected.
A local resident of Bokepyin said that most of the local people are not willing to attend the training and that this program is intended to extort money from the people.
In Bokypyin Township, the military council provides military training to militiamen and reserve fire brigades almost every month, and there are no less than 400 trainees so far.
