Real vs. Fake News
Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.
This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolution events spread on social
media after the military takeover.
Today, we will verify the news spread by pro-junta fake accounts, entitled “PDFs pretend to take the matriculation exam and plot to detonate bombs”.
This fake news was spread by military lobbyists Han Nyein Oo and Ah Than on Telegram since March 17.
The full report said: “The PDFs came to the exam venue conducted by the military council and planned to bomb it by pretending to take the exam,” along with the photos of the PDFs.
The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and photos, and found them to be misinformation.
In fact, these photos are of PDFs and local resistance forces preparing to take the matriculation examination to be held by the NUG, which was reported by the NUG Ministry of Defense on February 18.
The NUG’s Ministry of Defence has issued a statement stating that local residents in the 3rd Military Region and male and female comrades from the People’s Defense Forces are preparing to take the matriculation examination to be conducted by the Ministry of Education of NUG.
The statement of 3rd Military Region of the Department of information under NUG’s Ministry of Defence.
