Nay Pyi Taw, March (28)

Military leader General Min Aung Hlaing said some ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) supporting the National Unity Government (NUG) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) will be dealt with decisively.

The coup leader made the remarks in his speech at the 78th Armed Forces Day ceremony on March 27.

The military leader said that the attacks by the NUG, PDF, and some EAOs supporting them are actions aimed at destroying the country and they need to be stopped completely.

The secretary 1 of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Khu Daniel, responded that the military group has been using these terms since U Ne Win’s era and has never been able to defeat the KNPP outright, so they will continue to do what they have to do.

Regarding the military leader’s statement in the speech, Colonel Nawbu, the information officer of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), told Than Lwin Times that he would only be able to comment after asking the opinion of the KIO Central Committee.

The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) have been taking up arms against the regime forces in Sagaing, Kachin State, and Karenni State in cooperation with the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) since the military took power.

The Karen National Union (KNU), the Chin National Front (CNF) and the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), which have signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), are actively engaging in the Spring Revolution.

U Pe Than, a political analyst, considered that while ethnic rights, democracy, and federal rights are one and the same, the military council’s comment threatens to divide the EAO and PDF from cooperating.

According to research group ISP-Myanmar’s data, more than 8,000 clashes occurred in more than 190 townships within two years of the military coup, with more than half of them involving the military council and ethnic armed forces.

Moreover, the military leader said that the Tatmadaw is always opening the door for ethnic armed organizations to come to the peace table.

He also stated in his speech that peace and stability are crucial for the timely holding of elections across the country, and it can’t be done carelessly.

The National Unity Government (NUG), ethnic armed organizations and revolutionary forces have clearly declared that the election to be held by the military council is a sham and that they will not accept the results.
