Thaton, April (4)
After being attacked on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road, the regime forces moved closer to Kamarsai village in Mon State’s Thaton Township, according to the chairman of the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee.
On the morning of April 2, the joint force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) attacked a military convoy of five vehicles driving from Belin to Thaton with mines, sparking the fighting between the two sides.
Following that, reinforcements of more than 50 troops entered the villages near Kamarsai in Thaton Township.
Although there hasn’t been any fighting yet, the chairman of the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee warned that intense fighting could erupt if more regime troops approached the areas.
Several locals from Kamarsai, Yeway, and adjacent villages have fled ahead of the junta’s march, while others are keeping an eye on the situation.
Locals said that during the battle that took place on April 2, three civilians were hit and injured due to heavy weapons fired by the military council.
Following General Min Aung Hlaing’s declaration that he would take action against some ethnic armed organizations assisting the National Unity Government (NUG) and People’s Defense Force (PDF), the situation on the ground in KNU’s Thaton Township has become more tense, with frequent skirmishes.
