Nearly 3,000 residents have been forced to flee their homes because the junta army has invaded the Taung Pyauk area of Thanintharyi Region’s Thayatchaung with massive force, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
Since the morning of April 11, a column of more than 60 troops has entered the Taung Pyauk area via the Thin Kyun village road.
On April 10, the junta column entered Kyauk Hlaykhar village and destroyed local houses, while on April 11, the junta troops invaded villages in Taung Pyauk area in two columns.
The junta raid forced all residents of the villages of Kyauk Hlaykhar, Shal Taung, Kyat Sar Pyin, and Dauk to flee, with most of them taking refuge in nearby jungles and shelters.
Despite the military council’s offensives, no fighting has occurred and the tension remains high, a PDF official told Than Lwin Times.
On April 9, after the PDF attacked a junta camp in Saw Phyar village, Thayat Chaung Township, the suffering regime troops invaded the Taung Pyauk area.
According to data from local research groups, there have been more than 40,000 displaced people in Tanintharyi as of early April this year.
