Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program checks fake news and misinformation about revolution events on social media after the military takeover.

Today, we will verify the news and photos spread by pro-junta fake accounts, saying “The Karenni Nationalities People’s Liberation Front (KNPLF) did not join the Karenni People’s Defense Forces”.

This fake news has been spread by the fake Telegram accounts of military lobbyists Kyaw Swar and Han Nyein Oo since June 27.

The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos and discovered them to be false.

In fact, the Karenni Nationalities People’s Liberation Front (KNPLF), which has five battalions in all, including two border guard battalions, declared a revolution against the junta army on July 1.

Reliable news outlets have reported that the KNPLF, known as the 4K coalition, is fighting against the military council in collaboration with the Karenni Army (KA), Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), and Karen National Union/Karen Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA), as well as the People’s Defense Force (PDF), armed wing of National Unity Government (NUG) and Karenni Revolution Union (KRU) in the Mese battle.

The Karenni Nationalities People’s Liberation Front (KNPLF) said in a statement that it will work with the Committee representing Pyidaunsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the National Unity Government (NUG).

Joint Secretary Comrade Lauyin Soe reported that the KNPLF is attacking junta camps in Mese Township in Karenni (Kayah) State, where it is based, in collaboration with local resistance groups.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, the report “The Karenni Nationalities People’s Liberation Front (KNPLF) did not join the Karenni People’s Defense Forces”, is just false information spread by junta supporters.
