Kyaikto, July (7)

A bridge on the mountain road leading to Kyaikthio Pagoda was destroyed by a mine at around 3 p.m. on July 6, locals told Than Lwin Times.

The combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force detonated Lay Phar Taw bridge, not far from the 10-minute camp on Kyaiktiyo mountain road.

The explosion caused the 70-foot-long bridge to collapse, but no casualties have been reported.

The destruction of Lay Phar Taw bridge has blocked traffic, and more than 200 pilgrims and local residents on Kyaiktiyo Mountain are having a hard time getting back down to Kim Mon Chaung village.

A spokesperson for KNU-Thaton District said that the attack was carried out because the regime troops were stationed in some places on Kyaiktiyo Mountain and were using the mountain road to transport food supplies and weapons.

The KNLA coalition force detonated Kyoneik bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Shwe Yaung Pya village in Belin on June 29.

According to the officials of KNU-Thaton District reported that the attack on Kyoneik bridge is intended to cut off the supply route of the junta army.
