Kyaikto, July (15)

Massive regime troops detained 16 people, including gold miners working in gold mines behind a palm oil plantation in Ingabo village in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township, according to PDF-Thaton District.

After the 60-strong junta forces arrived in military vehicles at 3 o’clock in the evening on July 13, they arrested 16 employees, including gold mine workers, backhoe operators, and the manager of Pan Theingi Agricultural Company.

Among those arrested are 10 workers from Ko Aung Gold Mining Group, three backhoe operators, Myo Myint Kyaw, the manager of Pan Theingi Agricultural Company, and two employees, including Ko Ko Chit.

The regime forces confiscated three excavators and one piece of gold mining equipment and burned down the huts where the workers lived.

Than Lwin Times is still investigating the reason why the junta arrested them.

According to sources close to the military council, they were detained at the Kyaikto police station and the 44th Division headquarters and under investigation.

Following the military coup, regime forces arrested businessmen and civilians for various reasons in Kyaikto and demanded ransom money.
