Nearly 50 regime troops were killed in more than 160 clashes between the military council and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in KNU-held Hpapun District in half a month, reported the KNU Brigade 5 on July 19.
From July 1 to July 15, 165 battles took place in the KNU’s Hpapun District between the two sides resulting in the deaths of 49 junta troops and the injuries of 32 others.
In addition, the KNLA shot and killed 16 horses that were used to transport food for the junta troops, and one of the KNLA forces was wounded in the fighting in the past fortnight, said the statement.
The fighting continues in Hpapun, and the junta fired three 120-mm mortar shells into Maekhu village in Butho Township on July 2, and one house in Thay Kho Lar village was also damaged by the shelling of the junta’s armed wing, the Border Guard Force (BGF).
On July 5, two houses were destroyed as the junta aircraft dropped 12 bombs into Lenarde Village, Paekaede Village, and Lutho Township, according to the statement of KNLA Brigade 5.
