An artillery shell exploded in Kawkayeik, which has been placed under martial law, injuring seven civilians, locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.

On July 19, around 7:00 a.m., Infantry Battalion 97, the district police compound, and junta troops stationed at No. 3 checkpoint in Khaneimu village were attacked by KNLA joint forces.

The two sides exchanged fire for almost an hour, and then an explosion occurred in Kawkayeik.

The artillery blast injured three men and four women, including U Rupa, U Thein Win, and Daw Shwe in No. 7 Ward, and Daw Than Than and Daw Hla Myint in No. 2 Ward in Kawkayeik.

It is reported that the injured civilians were taken to the Kawkayeik Public Hospital by the social rescue team.

It is known that some comrades of the KNLA and PDF were injured, but Than Lwin Times is still investigating the details of the situation on the ground.

In May, an elderly displaced couple returning home were hit by an artillery shell and killed in an explosion in Kawkayeik, said the locals.
