Six businessmen from Myeik Township have been summoned for questioning in connection with the arrest and investigation of three high-ranking military officers from Tanintharyi Region, sources close to the military regime confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
Deputy Commander of Tanintharyi Coastal Region Command Brigadier General Thit Lwin Htoo, Military Operations Commands (MOC-20) Brigadier General Win Kyaw Thu and Chief Minister Colonel Thein Lin of Tanintharyi’s Ministry of Security and Border Affairs have been under investigation in Nay Pyi Taw since 26July.
In connection with the military council has been investigating U Thet Soe from the Myeik Fishery Association, Chairman of Myeik Public Company., Ltd. U Hla Than, U Khin Maung Htwe from OK Rice Trading; U Min Thura from the Lead Enterprise, and U Win Hin and U Phoe Shein in Dawei.
Sources said that the inspection of six businesspersons was related to the corruption of Colonel Thein Lin, Tanintharyi’s Chief Minister of Security and Border Affairs.
Chief Minister of Security and Border Affairs Colonel Thein Lin took bribes to close the cases related to the seized lead, falsified the cost of buying mill equipment with the state budget, and received three cars, including a vehicle worth 180 million kyats, as bribe.
If found guilty, the military officials will be terminated and may face prison sentences.
According to locals, the six business persons are in close ties to the military council following the military coup and are frequently seen at junta’s events.
Similarly, Major General Ko Ko Maung, Commander of the Northern Command stationed in Myitkyina, Kachin State, was arrested and interrogated by the military council in the second week of July, said close to the military regime.
