Kawkayeik, 8 August

The Karen National Union’s Central Standing Committee member, Pado Saw Taw Nee, said that there is no reason to go back and no need to hesitate when it comes to the overthrow of military regime.

Padoh Saw Taw Nee, a member of the KNU’s Foreign Affairs Department and the Central Standing Committee, made this comment on 7 August regarding the current political situation.

Regarding the common goals of revolutionary organizations fighting together in the Spring Revolution, a representative of KNU’s Foreign Affairs Department Padoh Saw Taw Nee said the following on 6 August.

“Regarding the joint statement of the National Unity Government (NUG) and National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) issued yesterday, I would like to say that our stance is unwavering. According to our experience, the junta has captured political prisoners and used them as they see fit.  They have been using this tactic for a long time”.

Furthermore, Padoh Saw Taw Nee stated that the military council’s practice of offering incentives and opportunities is utterly contrary to their organization’s common goal, so there is no reason to accept it and they strongly reject it.

He added that the KNU will march straight and steadily to achieve the desired goal, and any work has a strategic and tactical aspects. According to our strategy, any kind of dictatorship must be removed. We held talks based on our past experience, but in the end, the junta took up arms to solve the political issues, and in particular, it ended with a military coup”.

The Karen National Union (KNU) is also a powerful ethnic armed organization, and after the military coup, it engaged in fighting the junta in cooperation with allied revolutionary forces, including NUG’s armed-wing PDF.

During the more than two years of the coup, more than 9,000 clashes occurred between junta forces and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in KNU-held areas, according to KNU statements.
