Kyaikto, 29 August
Three civilians were injured by the indiscriminate shooting of regime troops who were ambushed on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Daung Taung village in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township, said locals.
A military convoy of six vehicles driving from Kyaiktoto to Bago Region was ambushed by the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the allied resistance forces with heavy weapons and small arms.
The junta troops retaliated with machine gunfire along Yangon-Mawlamyine.
Locals said that Ko Aung Lay and Ko Tun Naing from Ingabo village, as well as a truck driver standing on the side of the road, were injured by the shooting of the regime forces.
At least 10 soldiers may have been killed in the ambush attack, but the details of the situation on the ground are still being investigated, sources from allied resistance forces told Than Lwin Times.
According to the local defense forces, the regime troops abandoned a military vehicle that was hit by a heavy weapon near Mayan Chaung village in Kyaikto Township, and the injured troops were taken to the Mawlamyine checkpoint.
A passenger van was also hit, and two passengers were injured, however Than Lwin Times could not confirm this independently.
On August 15, five soldiers were injured in an attack on a military convoy near Thayetkon village in Kyaikto Township, according to KNU’s Thaton District.
