More than 100,000 CDM teachers devote themselves to the development of the basic education sector of the National Unity Government (NUG), said Mahn Win Khaing Than, Prime Minister of the NUG.
On World Teachers’ Day, October 5, the Prime Minister remarked on the situation of the NUG’s implementation in the education sector.
The NUG government opened over 70 online schools and over 5,000 in-person classes in the basic education sector during the coup.
Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than said that there are more than 100,000 CDM teachers in the basic education sector, which is implementing the policies of the Ministry of Education of NUG, and plans to recruit more volunteer teachers.
The ministry said that more than 176 million Myanmar kyats were spent on technology costs for the Basic Education Completion Assessment (BECA) in the implementation of the basic education sector.
Interim university councils have been established to continue learning processes for the higher education sector, and subject boards are also working to supervise and prepare instruction and curriculum.
NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La also said at the World Teachers’ Day that the military regime committed inhuman acts such as deliberately bombing and burning schools, arresting, torturing, and killing teachers without distinguishing between military and civilian targets following the coup.
According to a report released on September 9 by the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA), Myanmar has become one of the top three countries attacked in the education sector in 2022.
