Yangon, 30 November

U Ye Htut, former Information Minister has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the military council, a source close to the Police Forces of Yangon Region told Than Lwin Times.

Insein Special Court passed the verdicts under Section 124(d) for sedition and Section 505 (a) for spreading fake news, with the total sentence to 10 years in prison on 29 November.

After the junta lobby’s Telegram channels campaigned to arrest U Ye Htut on 28 October, an officer from the headquarters of   Yangon Region’s Military Command  filed a lawsuit and he was arrested.

Analysts say that U Ye Htut was sentenced to prison because he criticized the military regime on social media after the military coup.
