Military supporters are paid daily wages and used for security alongside regime groups in Tanintharyi Region’s Kawthaung Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.

The military council has assigned veterans, people close to administrative officials, Pyu Saw Htee members, and military supporters as security members for 30,000 kyats per day beginning the first week of December.

It is said that the military council hired at least 5 people from a neighborhood and gave them guns or batons as weapons.

According to local residents, the military council is unable to deploy troops in and around Kawthaung town, so army supporters are paid daily wages and used for security.

It has been reported that recruits, policemen, administrative members, and recruits have been patrolling and checking overnight guests in Shwe Zin Yaw, Aye Yeik Nyein, Shwe Pyi Thar, Three-Mile, and One-Mile Wards almost every night. 

The regime troops, on the other hand, has set up ambushes in the Ngar Thone Lone and 7th Mile mountain ranges in Kawthaung, firing heavy weapons into the areas where the public defense forces are believed to be present.

The junta army used the period of crisis to carry out the attack, and the Kawthaung-PDF spokesperson warned people to stay away from regime troops.

According to the revolutionary forces, the military council paid daily wages to more than 300 civilians and military personnel who cleared the area in Khamaukgyi town and surrounding villages in Kawthaung Township.

On December 8, two soldiers were killed in an ambush attack while advancing near Phaw Thote village in Kawthaung, and a firearm was seized by the PDF.
